He has undertaken post-fellowship subspecialty training in Pittsburgh, USA, in skull base and spine surgery using endoscopic techniques and minimally invasive strategies to access skull base and pituitary tumors, cranial nerve disorders, and complex spine and vascular pathologies.

He received his advanced neurosurgery training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital while also studying for his doctorate Ph.D. After completing his neurosurgical training, Dr Tomlinson worked for three years at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in the United States of America, before returning to Australia to accept a position as a visiting neurosurgical consultant at the Royal Brisbane and Royal Children’s Hospitals. He worked as a Clinical Associate Professor, supervising neurosurgical training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
What is nephrology?
As a branch of internal medicine, nephrology deals with kidney and hypertension diseases. Nephrologists diagnose and treat kidney disease and advise patients on how to protect themselves from them.
Basically, nephrology deals with prevention, diagnostics, conservative (non-operative) therapy and aftercare of kidneys – and hypertensive diseases. The implementation of all extracorporeal blood purification procedures (dialysis, apheresis, immunoadsorption) and the care of patients with a transplanted kidney also fall within the specialist field of nephrology.

What does a nephrologist do?
Our kidneys are real all-rounders! They filter the entire amount of blood up to 300 times a day. In total, up to 1,800 liters pass through the kidneys every day.
